Join Scouting Night As the chartering organization of the Lakeside Cub Scouts (Pack 847), would like to encourage the families of Lakeside boys, who are not currently scouts, to attend the Join Scouting Night program on Tuesday, September 7th at 6:45pm in the Lakeside cafeteria. Cub scouts is a wonderful program that promotes fun, family activity, family values and it works to instill a sense of pride in the boys through accomplishment and goodwill. So bring your boys and the entire family out to Join Scouts Night and open your family up to a whole new world that is built on character development, good citizenship, and mental and physical fitness. Lakeside Chess Club Presented by USA Chess, a nationally renowned children's chess academy and the premier chess academy of the Southwest! www.usachess.com Grades K and up may participate in the Lakeside Elementary Chess Club: Mondays, 3:05pm-4:05pm in Room C102 from September 13th, 2010 to December 13th, 2010. $115 per student. CHS Homecoming Tailgate The CHS Homecoming game is September 10th and the CHS Boys Soccer Booster Club is sponsoring its Annual Tailgate Dinner partnering with Fat Daddys. Dinner Tickets are $10 each which includes a Fat Daddy's hamburger or chicken sandwich, chips and a drink. Bake sale items will also be for sale that night. Raffle tickets are $2 each for a chance to win an iPad. The Tailgate will be located between the North Gym and the Visitor entrance from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lakeside Elementary Drama Club The Lakeside Elementary Drama Club is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who are interested in learning more about theatre arts, acting, rehearsing, and performing a production on stage. We will meet after school in the cafeteria for 10 weeks Mondays from 3:05pm-5pm, beginning Monday, September 13. The performance of "Aladdin" will be presented on Monday, November 15. ALL PROCEEDS FROM TICKET SALES BENEFIT Lakeside Elementary!!! There is a participation free of $170 that covers professional instruction, 2 tickets to the evening performance, some sets/costumes and club t-shirt. Registration is handled ONLINE only. Tax Rate Election - 9/11/10 Tax rates are essential to maintaining the quality of education in Coppell. The Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate provides salaries for educators as well as utilities, supplies, insurance, and equipment. Any changes in the M&O tax rate above $1.04 must be approved by citizens through an election. The only new revenue the school district receives is through growth in student enrollment or through tax rate increases. The School District will ask voters to approve a 13-cent M&O tax rate increase per $100 in property valuation to help alleviate its declining fund balance. Election day is officially September 11, 2010, but you can vote early here on Lakeside's campus on Wednesday, September 1 from 7am to 7pm. From the School Nurse During the elementary year clinic staff will be seeing your child for various reasons including: first aid, immediate care during illness in school, hearing, and vision screenings, scoliosis spinal screenings, and administering medication(s) when needed. To help make this experience a smooth transition for both you and your child, we have listed some important things that you need to keep in mind throughout the year. Sign up to volunteer on PTO Manager Welcome to an exciting new school year at Lakeside. Our school has incredible teachers, amazing students and wonderful parents who volunteer to help in so many ways. We would like to challenge every parent to volunteer in one way or another this year! Attention all Kindergarten Parents! We know that there are so many emotions involved in the first day of kindergarten, for the students and parents alike. So, after you drop off your child in their new "home away from home," please join us in the cafeteria for a breakfast honoring you: our new Lakeside parents! Registration Round-Up All parents are required to supply a copy of a current July or August electric bill and update the CISD portal account before the child’s teacher assignment will be released. Please update your portal account before coming on August 18th. Once you have completed the forms and new year paperwork, class assignments will be distributed. Full details here. 8/11/10

Back to School Picnic Mark your calendars! Thursday, August 19th at 6pm, Lakeside Longhorns & their families are invited to participate in the annual Back to School Picnic! We will have our usual fun activities: a water slide, free slushees, and a DJ to rock the music! There's also a surprise this year for all of our young athletes!  Benefit to Raise School Supplies for CISD Students Get You In Shape, is teaming up with PepsiCo to sponsor an upcoming event that will benefit Coppell ISD students. This will really help students in need by providing them with backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of the school year. When: August 7th at 8:00 am; August 14th & 21st at 7:00 & 8:00 am (First 3 Saturdays of August) Where: Andy Brown Park East (by Coppell Rec Center) 260 East Parkway Blvd, Coppell What: Boot Camp 4 Backpacks will give event participants up to 3 free Saturday sessions in the beginning of August and a commemorative t-shirt in exchange for donating a school-supply loaded backpack. Backpacks will then be given to CISD schools to be distributed to students in need. 8/1/10

Help for the grieving This afternoon Tuesday, July 20th from 1-4 pm, Coppell High Schoool will have counselors available for anyone who would like to discuss the tragic deaths last week.
